HOMEMADE FRENCH BREAD

Updated: Jan 27

Perfect bakery style bread at home!

Yes this bread it tastes and looks like a legit French bakery bread. Amaze yourself with this easy recipe and the best part is you get to eat it. It’s light, spongy and soft on the inside and is golden and crispy on the outside. Nothing better than a slice of warm homemade bread just out of the oven… with jam or butter of course! Yum!

Ingredients

1 1/4 Tablespoons active dry yeast

2 Cups warm water

5 1/2 - 6 Cups flour

1 1/2 Teaspoons salt

1 Egg beaten

1 Teaspoon olive oil

Steps:

1. In a bowl beat an egg and mix with warm water.

2. In the bowl of a stand mixer, add yeast, water, salt, and 5 cups of flour.

3. Add water, egg mixture to the dry ingredients in the stand mixer.

4. Start to knead on a slow speed until the flour combines. Gradually increase speed to medium and add in extra flour a little at a time, until dough comes together and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. The dough should be smooth and not sticky.

5. Add oil to coat the dough and grease the bowl, cover with a plastic wrap and leave to rise until double in size( about half an hour or more).

6. Place the proofed dough onto a floured surface and divide in two portions. Roll out each half into a long rectangle about 10 x 7 inches. Begin at the long end, roll the dough over itself into a log form. Round both the ends in and under the log and pinch the seams closed. Place both the dough logs onto a baking sheet.

7. Make four or five diagonal cuts across the top of each loaf with a sharp kitchen blade or knife. Lightly brush milk on the top.

8. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.

Enjoy!
